In a statement, the IHC said that the petition has led to many people questioning whether a petition can be submitted to the court after the notified timings. The court clarified that two circulars issued on Nov 11, 2019 and Feb 10, 2021 said that if there was an imminent threat to the life or liberty of a citizen or any other crucial issue, petitions can be received by the registrar office that can deliver them to the chief justice even after the court timing.
The high court further said that it was a constitutional court which is why it has made sure that its doors remain open for petitioners who bring forth extremely urgent matters. In case the chief justice agrees that the matter is urgent enough, he can direct fixing of the case at any time, the statement said.
