Mufti Saeed made the remark when he was testifying in the lawsuit involving the purportedly un-Islamic Nikah of the former prime minister with Bushra Riaz Wattoo, also known as Bushra Bibi.
In February 2018, the former prime minister married Bushra, who is his third wife.
Former party leader Awn Chaudhry and Khan's close friend Zulfi Bukhari said that Mufti Saeed performed the nikah in Lahore. They both witnessed Khan's nikah as well.
Mufti Saeed went today with his attorney to a municipal court in Islamabad to give a testimony.
"In January 2018, I received a phone call from Imran Khan. I was a part of Imran Khan's core committee, and we had a good relationship at the time," he said.
Mufti Saeed informed the court, "Imran Khan asked me to solemnize his nikkah with Bushra Bibi."
He added that a woman who was with Bushra Bibi demonstrated that she was her sister.
Mufti Saeed added, "I asked her [the woman] if Bushra Bibi's nikah can be [solemnized] as per Shariah, and she answered that all conditions for the marriage under Shariah were satisfied.
Further, he said that on January 1st, 2018, on the woman’s guarantee, he solemnized Khan and Bushra Bibi's nikah.
Mufti Saeed testified before the court that, "Then the former premier contacted me again in February 2018 and asked me to solemnize his Nikah with Bushra Bibi once more as the first time it was against the Shariah.
He claimed that Bushra Bibi's iddat had not come to an end the first time the nikah was solemnized. Mufti Saeed said that Khan told him that Bushra Bibi was divorced in November 2017 and it was "predicted" that he would succeed as prime minister of Pakistan if he got married to Bushra Bibi.
Mufti Saeed said the initial nikah, which had been solemnized based on the "prediction," was illegal.
