Following the viral social media footage of Pakistan Army officers allegedly beating up policemen in Bahawalnagar, the Punjab Police on Wednesday denounced "fake propaganda."
The police said in a statement on X, previously Twitter, that "this matter in Bahawalnagar, which went viral on social media, has been taken out of context and exaggerated."
A day before, a number of videos that allegedly featured men in army uniforms hitting Bahawalnagar police personnel went widespread on social media. In one video, a man with a bloodied nose was sitting on the ground. In another video, a guy and two soldiers were seen making policemen kneel in a line.
The police, however, said that the occurrence was being portrayed in a way to "imply that there has been fighting between the Pakistan Army and Punjab Police" in a statement released last night.
The two institutions conducted a cooperative inquiry after the unverified videos went viral. It stated that, after reviewing the circumstances, officers from both institutions reached a peaceful resolution.
"The Pakistan Army and the Punjab Police are working together to drive out criminals, miscreants, and terrorists from the province. We kindly ask social media users to refrain from disseminating false information," the statement read.
