Islamabad police had earlier presented Gill before court after the completion of the two-day remand. Police requested the court to extend Gill's remand. They informed the court that the recording of a private TV channel's programme in which Gill had made anti-army remarks had been obtained and the audio evidence matched.
Police had arrested the PTI leader on Tuesday for delivering statements against state institutions and inciting the people to rebellion. AN FIR was registered against Gill at Kohsar Police Station under several sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) including 124-A, 131, 153, 153-A, 505, and 506.
“This is an abduction not an arrest. Can such shameful acts take place in any democracy? Political workers treated as enemies. And all to make us accept a foreign backed government of crooks,” PTI chairman Imran Khan had tweeted following Gill's arrest.
