The Sindh police presented PTI Senator Azam Swati before the judicial magistrate and civil judge of Qambar town court. The magistrate granted the police custody of the aged Senator under three days' physical remand.

On Friday 9 December, Sindh Police took Swati into custody from Quetta, despite the Balochistan High Court (BHC) having ordered Balochistan Police to release him and quash all five FIRs registered against him in the province. The BHC had also ordered law enforcement, including Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), to not file any more cases against Swati.

This is the second time in two months that Senator Swati was taken into custody by FIA for his controversial tweets regarding former army chief General Bajwa. He has also been nominated in several cases on allegations of using vulgar language and for attempting to provoke the people against the military.

During the hearing of a petition filed by Swati's son Usman, the Sindh High Court (SHC) today ordered Sindh police to not register additional cases against Senator Swati. The SHC also ordered the Senator be produced before the court on 14 December, the date when his remand will be over.
