Actor Mehwish Hayat has approached the Sindh High Court for legal action against 'anyone circulating defamatory content against her on the social media', days after Kubra Khan took notice of a similar campaign against herself.

Following the petition, the high court has issued notices to the Federal Investigation Agency and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and asked them to remove the aforesaid content within two weeks.

The actor then took to Twitter to explain why she chose to move the SHC and pursue legal action in the matter.

"Today, I went to court to send a strong message that I will not stand for these vile smear campaigns anymore," she said.

Hayat added, "This has been going on for some time - but the events of the last few days have hit a new low."

She made it clear she was willing to accept criticism on her work but that no one had the right to defame her character.

"I am not the one to sit and let anyone use me as a pawn in their dirty political games," Hayat remarked.

On Jan 3, actor Kubra Khan threatened to take YouTuber Adil Raja to court for defamation over a video wherein he alleged that four “top models and actresses” had illicit relationships with top ex-generals.

“I stayed quiet initially because obviously a fake video isn’t going to take over my existence but ENOUGH IS ENOUGH,” Khan had posted on her Twitter and Instagram handles.

“Do you think random people can point fingers at me and I’ll sit quietly and take it?” she had asked.

The 29-year-old had then asked Raja to either furnish some sort of a proof and publicly apologise or be sued “for defamation”.

Responding to the actor, Raja had claimed that he hadn’t named Kubra, saying she did name him in her post which, in fact, fell under the ambit of defamation.

The YouTuber, a self-described analyst, released a video in Dec last year wherein he made sweeping statements against the former military leadership.

Quoting sources, he had alleged four “top models and actresses” of fraternising with the officials, and politicians. He had mentioned the initials of the four women, as MK, MH, SA and KK, or AK.
