Journalist Rauf Klasra, in his latest vlog, has claimed that Prime Minister Imran Khan has refused to accept the appointment of the new DG ISI and is not going to back down.

He said that a fresh summary pertaining to the appointment of the new DG ISI will be jointly prepared by the Defence Ministry and the military, in which three new names for DG ISI would be presented to the PM for approval.

He quoted a 'high level' source privy to the matter as saying that Lt Generals Nadeem Anjum or Faiz Hameed's name will not be part of the list, and the civilian and military leadership will consider a third person for the post.

"I asked them [the source] if they were saying that a new DG ISI would be appointed and neither General Faiz nor General Nadeem Anjum would be considered for the post anymore. They responded that this was possible," Klasra said, while speaking about his conversation with his source.

Earlier today, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has said that the appointment of the new chief of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) will be made as per the rules and regulations.

He issued this statement while addressing a press conference following a weekly meeting of the federal cabinet.

He stated that the government and the military had ‘ideal’ relations, adding that a ‘long meeting’ was held between Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Prime Minister Imran Khan to discuss the issues pertaining to the new spy chief’s appointment.

The minister further said that the two leaders enjoy cordial relations, adding that the government will never do anything that would undermine the military and vice versa.

Fawad also said that the new chief’s appointment will be made as per the rules agreed upon by COAS Bajwa and PM Imran Khan.
