During a political rally in Layyah yesterday (Tuesday), the PTI chairperson said, "The Sri Lankan president tried to escape the country but was stopped at the airport by security officials," he said, adding, "He was also from a ruling family, he was like the Zardaris and the Sharifs."
"His money is outside of Sri Lanka, and in America, he has a house outside of which Sri Lankan's protest and say 'this was bought using money stolen from us', just like how Pakistanis protest outside Nawaz's 'palace' in London," he said.
However, previously in February, when Imran Khan had embarked on his maiden trip to Sri Lanka, he had been full of praise for the economic wisdom he received from the Sri Lankan president.
Speaking at an event during the visit, he said there had been great conversation about how to decrease the price of food items in both their countries.
"He [Sri Lankan President] told me how he went to China and visited various farms from where he discovered how they had reduced gaps between the whole sale and the resale [...] through technology," he said, adding that he thanked the President because he will 'immediately go back and bring in technology to reduce the gap'.
