Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif resigned as president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday, Geo News reported, citing sources.
The development comes after PML-N Punjab chapter President Rana Sanaullah said that Nawaz Sharif, a three-time prime minister, will lead the party.
Meanwhile, the central committee of the PML-N has scheduled a meeting for May 18 at 11:30 a.m. in Lahore.
The conference was scheduled in accordance with clause 15 of the party's constitution. PML-N Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal sent letters to the party's central committee about the upcoming meeting.
