She met with flood-victims at the Kher Mori and Johi relief camps in Dadu, Sindh, as well as school students in elementary schools in Karachi. Malala arrived in Karachi on Tuesday with her parents, and travelled to Dadu amid strict security on Wednesday.
At the relief camps, she met with many young girls and women, and fraternised with them by joining in on a drawing and coloring activity a few of the girls were busy in.
Malala's education non-profit quoted a 16-year-old flood-victim named Sohaila at a relief camp in Dadu as saying, "I want to go to school but there is so much water. If there was less water, I’d even go through it. We saw our homes get washed away in front of our eyes, saw our things floating away in the water. That was very painful to see."
Sohaila told Malala that she got excited when she heard the government would be providing classes at the relief camps, but was dismayed when she found out they would only cater to younger children.
Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah, who had accompanied Malala, promised the young girl Sohaila that he would do all he could to make sure she could complete her education.
Malala was also accompanied by Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho, singer and social worker Shahzad Roy and a few other officials, although owing to very strict security arrangements, media access was very limited.
