In the ODI international format, Fatima Sana has been named the new captain of Pakistan's women's cricket side.

In the second one-day international against New Zealand, Pakistan would be led by Fatima Sana due to Nida Dar's unavailability.

During the Second One Day International against New Zealand, Nida Dar sustained an injury while batting.

"It is an honor to lead the Pakistan women's side in ODIs, although the circumstances surrounding Nida Dar's injury are unfortunate," stated Fatima Sana. She's been an inspiration, and I hope she heals quickly.

"We defeated New Zealand in a historic T20I series, and I know the players are motivated to win the ODI series as well. We didn't play well in the first ODI, but we're all set to perform well in the match tomorrow."

When Fatima, 22, comes out for the toss in Christchurch tomorrow, she will become the 10th captain of the women's squad in the ODI format. Fatima made her debut for her country in the away series against South Africa in May 2019. After missing the previous Bangladesh series due to injury, the right-arm fast bowler made an incredible recovery to win the player of the series in the three Twenty20 Internationals against the White Ferns that were played from December 3 to December 9. Fatima was selected player of the match for her 4-0-18-3 stats in the first Twenty20 International at the University of Otago Oval in Dunedin on December 3. She took six wickets at an economy rate of 5.60 for the series.

Recognized for her outstanding play from the beginning of her career, the Karachi native was awarded PCB's Emerging Cricketer of the Year in 2020 and went on to become the first Pakistani woman player to win the ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year in 2021.
