Earthquake tremors were recorded in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, and nearby places.

The tremors were also felt in various places, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Mardan, Kohat, Swat, Lower Dir, Malakand, Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The 5.3-magnitude earthquake occurred at 8.24 p.m., according to the seismic center, with the epicenter in the Hindu Kush area of Afghanistan and a depth of 130km.

Natural catastrophes such as earthquakes are not uncommon in Pakistan, which is located on the border of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.

Large regions of South Asia are seismically active as the Indian plate pushes northward onto the Eurasian plate.

Recent earthquakes have highlighted the necessity of catastrophe preparation and mitigation methods.
