Political Analyst Zaigham Khan said on Wednesday that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan could be likened to political heavyweights such as Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif. He made the comments while speaking in flagship Naya Daur TV show Khabar Say Aagay. The political analyst said ousting the Punjab government was no child's play. He said the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) had secured a great bargain and had been punching way above its weight. Switching sides, the political analyst said, would make little sense for the party then.

Maryam Nawaz sidelined

Khan said prime minister Shehbaz and former Punjab chief minister Hamza severely lacked on this front. Maryam Nawaz had emerged as a charismatic figure, he said, only to be sidelined in the run up to the passage of the no-confidence motion against Imran. The motion's success, Khan said, had vindicated Imran's lone-wolf binary narrative.

Elitist state must be revamped

Commenting on the recent floods, Khan said securing both: aid and debt had become an uphill task for Pakistan. He said the only solution to Pakistan's woes was for the "elitist state" to be completely revamped.

Khan quoted the example of Bangladesh as a model to emulate. The country he said had made great strides in development with the assistance of non-governmental organisations. Khan said absence of NGOs had completely compromised Pakistan's flood response. The sector, host Raza Rumi said, had deliberately been destroyed in Pakistan. This, he said, commenced under the watch of former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar. The PTI had wrecked it completely after.

PML-N incapable of ousting Punjab government

Journalist Iftikhar Ahmed said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) claims on orchestrating the ouster of the Punjab government were unfounded. Forget cultivating links with those in the opposition, the PML-N cannot even keep track of its own MPAs. Ahmed said the party had effectively ceded all political space in the province. A deferment of COAS General Bajwa's extension simply not possible, he said. Ahmed said the concept did not feature in the Constitution. The nation's fortunes, he however said, could not be decided in accordance to one individual's whims. Ahmed said political jostling for power was revolting given how the nation stood ravaged by floods. He said the conscience of the so-called genteel had died. All they want is to profiteer, Ahmed said. Naya Daur TV flagship show Khabar Say Aagay airs every Monday to Friday at 9pm. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnXuSNlDSEM
