Former senator and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) leader Hafiz Hamdullah on Thursday survived a bomb attack that left him, among 11, injured.
The incident occurred when Hamdullah travelled from Quetta to Kalat via Mastung.
Videos recorded immediately after the attack showed Hamdullah, bleeding from his nose, being helped into a car by two of his guards, one of whom also had blood splattered across his face.
JUI-F Spokesperson Aslam Ghauri told Geo News shortly after the blast that Hamdullah was okay and that the situation was not critical.
He confirmed that some of Hamdullah's guards were also injured in the attack.
The injured were rushed to hospitals in Quetta.
While officials have yet to confirm the nature of the blast, footage from the site showed the tell-tale signs of a suicide blast with Hamdullah's car and an accompanying coaster pockmarked with shrapnel and possibly ball bearings. Ball bearings are often used by suicide bombers to greatly amplify the damage a relatively lower quantity of explosives carried can cause.
No group has thus far taken responsibility for mounting the attack.
The incident was widely condemned by the government, with strong statements from the prime minister and other ministers in the federal caretaker setup and the interim provincial government.
Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar termed the attack cowardly and strongly condemned it.
The entire nation and I are united against terrorism, he said.
Federal Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti, who also hails from Balochistan, prayed for the quick recovery of the JUI leader and others injured in the blast.
"Terrorists want to spread anarchy in the country," the minister said, adding that the government will not spare those attempting to dent the country's development and peace.
Former president and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari also condemned the attack

In late July, a JUI-F convention in Bajaur was targeted by a suicide bomber that left 63 people dead.
Following that attack, Hamdullah had been vocal about the lack of security provided to their party.
