Custody of PTI Senator Azam Swati has been "shifted" to Islamabad police after the Sindh High Court (SHC) ordered on Thursday that no more cases should be registered against the senator. 34 cases were registered against Senator Azam Swati across the Sindh province, all of which were "rendered ineffective" on the high court's orders.

Swati was arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on 27 November in a case related to controversial tweets against former army chief General Bajwa. This was his second arrest and detention in the same high-profile case.

On 1 December, an Islamabad court had approved Swati’s judicial remand for 14 days in FIA custody, but the senator was handed over to Balochistan police a day later. He remained in Balochistan police’s custody for a week, and was then handed over to Sindh police.

The Sindh police "released" Senator Swati into Islamabad police's custody, as confirmed by Sindh Prosecutor General Faiz Shah.

Today, a district and sessions court in Islamabad has ordered an extension in Senator Swati's judicial remand for a period of 14 more days.
