The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday directed that children should be found begging or hawking wares on the streets late at night.

This was directed by the PHC Chief Justice Muhammad Ibrahim Khan as he heard a case about children seeking alms on the roads of the provincial capital late at night.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Ibrahim remarked that there is a time and place to earn a living. He added that children were found selling flowers on the streets as late as 1 AM.

"Is this appropriate?" CJ Ibrahim asked.

He directed that children should not be seen seeking alms after 9 PM.

Chief Justice Ibrahim remarked that unless the issue is addressed, he will issue summons for the city's commissioner and deputy commissioner. He added that the caretaker chief minister of the region would also be required to appear before the court.

Further hearings in the case were postponed until February 2.
