The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday gave yet another relief to the deposed prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif by disposing of a 2018 case for his anti-judiciary speech.

The case, which had been pending since 2018, was heard by IHC Chief Justice Aamir Farooq.

With the case lodged by citizen Adnan Iqbal, CJ Farooq waited for his representatives to turn up in court.

But when no one turned up, CJ Farooq disposed of the matter, citing the lack of interest of the prosecution.

A contempt of court case was lodged against Nawaz Sharif in 2018 by Iqbal for the former prime minister's remarks against the judiciary.

The case, however, had been mothballed. It was suddenly affixed for hearing after five years with the IHC registrar issuing a cause list with this case listed.

Since Nawaz returned to Pakistan last month after spending four years in exile, several cases against him have been either overturned or have seen rapid progress. Just days ago, an accountability court released Nawaz's properties which had been frozen in 2020 over his prolonged absence from Pakistan.
