A former aide to prime minister and a key member of Imran Khan's inner sanctum, Bukhari turns on former Punjab chief minister

Former minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Zulfiqar Bukhari has made shocking revelations, claiming that former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan realised that Usman Buzdar was perhaps the wrong person for the role of Punjab chief minister.

He said this while speaking with the media in London.

Bukhari said that Usman Buzdar should never have been appointed as the chief minister of Pakistan's largest province.

Despite facing severe criticism from within his party and certain quarters for appointing relatively unknown Buzdar as the chief minister in 2018, Imran remained steadfast in his choice. Even when relations with party leaders such as Abdul Aleem Khan and others were soured, Imran refused to budge on Buzdar.

Bukhari, however, said that Imran had eventually realised that keeping Buzdar as the chief minister was the 'wrong choice', but it was not appropriate to tell him that.

He further said that the cases lodged against him were orchestrated by some people who were very close to Imran Khan.

Asked about alleged corruption allegations against another person close to Imran Khan's inner circle, Farhat Shahzadi (alias Farah Gogi), Bukhari said that if the allegations are proven, she should be punished for her crimes.

However, he added that it would not make any difference if he went to jail.

On the upcoming general elections, Bukhari said that the party will contest the polls.

He asserted that they would win the elections even if the PTI got only 50% of the playing field.

Last month, The federal government initiated a process to apprehend Bukhari, who is currently out of the country.

The federal government wrote to Interpol, seeking red notices for Bukhari's arrest abroad and subsequent extradition to Pakistan to face the courts in a case of attacking, vandalising and damaging the judicial complex during Imran Khan's visit on March 18, 2023.
