Social media users have been criticizing transphobic statements made by fashion designer Maria B in response to TEDxISL (International School of Lahore) barring trans rights activist Dr Mehrub Moiz Awan from speaking at the event because of her trans identity.

In a series of tweets on Tuesday, Dr Mehrub highlighted her experience, describing it as transphobia. “Finally censored for being trans and barred from speaking at TEDx ISL where I was slated to speak this 20th of August 2022 at ISL in Lahore,” she said in a tweet.

Since then, while many have come to her support on social media, Maria B decided to support ISL instead, and applauded them for 'making the right decision'. She claimed that Dr Mehrub wasn't a 'real transgender' and was instead a 'genderless person'. Social media users have been condemning her statements.
