ECP To Hold NA-108, NA-118 By-elections On May 28

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has revised the polling date for by-elections in two National Assembly constituencies of Punjab province and now scheduled it for May 28, 2023. The final list of candidates and polling schemes have been issued by the concerned district returning officers (DROs) and returning officers (ROs) of NA-108 Faisalabad and NA-118 Nankana Sahib, according to an ECP press release issued by the provincial election commissioner Punjab’s office.

The list of contesting candidates from NA-108 Faisalabad still includes the names of former state minister for information Farrukh Habib of the PTI, Muhammad Sajjad Akhtar Qadari of the Tehreek Labaik Pakistan (TLP) and Khurram Shahzad from the Pakistan Nazariati Party. The number of total registered voters in the constituency is 511,587 citizens, 273,032 of which are male and 238,555 are female voters.

Across 354 polling stations in the NA-108 Faisalabad constituency, 558 male and 526 female polling booths will be established by the ECP. 281 polling stations have been declared ‘highly sensitive’, 41 as ‘sensitive’ and the rest 32 as normal polling stations in the said constituency. To ensure smooth conduct of the polling process, 354 presiding officers, 1084 assistant presiding officers and 1084 polling officers have been appointed by ECP.

In the National Assembly constituency NA-118 of Nankana Sahib, there are four contesting candidates. Ejaz Muhammad Shah is contesting the seat on the PTI ticket, while Agha Muhammad Ali Khan is the candidate from MQM. Both Syed Ahmad Zaffar and Faisal Rasheed Bhatti are contesting elections as independent candidates. 443,010 registered voters will exercise their right to adult franchise, out of which 244,784 are male and 198,226 are female voters.

In 326 polling stations established across the NA-118 Nankana Sahib constituency, 460 male and 378 female booths will be established. There are 134 highly sensitive, 53 sensitive and 139 normal polling stations declared for the constituency. 334 presiding officers, 880 assistant presiding officers and 880 polling officers will oversee the voting process at polling stations in NA-118 Nankana Sahib.

The ECP statement says that the commission has completed all preparations and made all necessary arrangements for smooth, transparent and peaceful conduct of the by-elections scheduled for May 28.
