Eminent Progressive Writer Gul Hassan Kalmatti Passes Away In Karachi

Renowned progressive writer, researcher, and historian, Gul Hassan Kalmatti, passed away in Karachi on Wednesday.

Kalmatti penned 10 well-researched books on various topics and fought with his pen for the rights of indigenous people in Karachi.

Kalmatti was born in a small village named Arzi Baloch in Gadap Town, District Malir. He obtained a B.A. from SM Arts College Karachi and a Master's in Journalism (Mass Communication) and Diploma in Local Government from Karachi University. During his college life, he joined NSF (the Dr. Rasheed Group), and after the fall of NSF, he joined BSO and the national movement of Sindh.

He was actively participating in programs and talk shows on a number of different TV channels and documentaries, and he was writing blogs for social media as well. Kalmatti regularly contributed articles and features to newspapers and magazines.

Kalmatti was a travelogue historian who traveled around Sindh, Balochistan, Seraiki Waseeb, Punjab, and the Northern Areas of Pakistan. He also visited the coastal islands of Sindh and, with Dr. Rukhman Gul Palari, all those sites where Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai had traveled.

He achieved many awards, shields, and certificates during his career due to his remarkable research work and write-ups.
