Echoing the descriptions of such fuel price hikes during past governments, the opposition leaders are describing the situation as a “petrol bomb.”
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto has accused the government of bringing about a “tsunami of inflation” in Pakistan, while the PML-N's Shehbaz Sharif has opined: “PM Imran’s resignation could provide some relief to the nation.” Maryam Nawaz of the PML-N added to the chorus of condemnation, claiming that people in Pakistan were “cursing” the PM, “as they are unable to make their ends meet.”
The opposition alliance led by the JUI-F's Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman is due to meet on the 18th of October to decide on a strategy against the government in the wake of ongoing political, civil-military and economic problems.
