The legendary cricket commentator turned diplomat Jamsheed Marker has been "ambassador to more countries than any other person" according to the Guinness Book of World Records, and has also been called "the world's longest-serving ambassador". He played a key role in the independence of East Timor.

After he was contacted by Rashid Ahmed of Radio Pakistan - his former teacher in Dehradun - for commentary on a home series against India in 1954-55, Marker and Omar Kureishi became a legendary pair of commentators, credited with popularizing cricket in Pakistan.
