A special court in Rawalpindi granted post-arrest bail to former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry in a corruption case on Monday.
The court ordered the authorities to release the ex-minister and ordered the accused to submit a Rs200,000 surety bond.
Fawad, a former PTI leader, was arrested in November and held in police custody for two days in connection with an August 2022 case in which he was accused of accepting a Rs5 million bribe from a citizen.
He was placed on judicial remand after his physical remand was extended by one day, and he is presently detained at the Adiala jail.
Faisal Chaudhary, Fawad's brother and lawyer, told the media outside the court that the politician will run in the future general elections, which are planned for February 8, 2024.
However, he has yet to determine which party's ticket he would run on, he added.
"This decision will come as a surprise," remarked Faisal.
In response to the gap between him and his sister-in-law, Hiba Fawad, the lawyer stated that she spoke out because she was concerned.
"Hiba is my elder sister. We will settle the household dispute at home."
Meanwhile, the former minister's release is doubtful because Fawad was detained in a separate corruption case by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Chaudhry was taken into custody from the Adiala jail after NAB Chairman Lt-Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed Butt signed an arrest warrant for him.
The former information minister was detained in a corruption case, according to the warrant, and will be brought before the court.
Fawad was also among hundreds of party leaders and workers detained during the crackdown on the PTI following the May 9 riots for the party's suspected role in the incidents.
In June, the former minister was among the PTI figures present at the inauguration of the Istihkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), led by Jahangir Tareen.
