The federal minister for planning and development, Prof Ahsan Iqbal, has sent a letter to the special secretary of the Cabinet division, in which he is returning his government-sanctioned 4500cc vehicle.

The minister took this decision to "collectively bear the burden of financial and economic hardships faced by the country".

The planning minister's letter acknowledged that "Pakistan is standing at a crucial juncture and finds itself submerged in a variety of challenges, the worst of which is [the] economic crisis".

The minister said he felt it was his "duty to surrender" the 4500cc Toyota Land Cruiser V8 that was allotted to him. He requested that the vehicle may be replaced with a cost-effective "ordinary vehicle 1800cc or less".
