The IndiGo airplane was carrying 186 passengers, and landed "safely" at the Karachi airport at 2:14 AM, after seeking permission from the air control tower. After landing, the passengers were allowed to disembark safely and were taken to the transit lounge.
An alternate plane was sent from India to retrieve the passengers and take them back to India. The CAA spokesperson said that it would take an hour to complete all the formalities required for the transfer.
A statement was issued by IndiGo, saying that its flight 6E-1406 heading from Sharjah to Hyderabad Deccan was diverted to Karachi after the pilot 'observed a technical defect'.
"Necessary procedures were followed and as a precaution, the aircraft was diverted to Karachi,” the airline added, mentioning that the aircraft was being examined at the Karachi airport.
Earlier this month, another Indian plane, a SpiceJet had to make an 'emergency landing' at the Karachi airport after its pilots suspected a fuel leak.
The Boeing 737 airplane was headed from Mumbai to Dubai, and was forced to make a stop at Karachi on Tuesday after after an indicator light 'malfunctioned'. An alternative plane, 'SpiceJet' SG 9911, was then sent to carry the 138 stranded Indian passengers to Dubai from Karachi.
