Meanwhile, Inter Services Public Relations issued a press release announcing that Change of Command ceremony was held at Gujranwala Cantt. "Lieutenant General Syed Asim Munir handed over command of Gujranwala Corps to Lieutenant General Muhammad Aamer, Corps Commander Gujranwala Corps," the press release read.
Analysts have noted that the ISPR press release about the change of command was significant as it was issued amid the reports of the summary for ISI chief's appointment being sent to the Prime Minister's Office.
Further, some journalists have observed that the military's media wing rarely announces change of command at the corps level.

On October 6, Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmad Anjum was appointed as the chief of the ISI. His appointment came following the posting of former DG ISI Faiz Hameed as the Peshawar Corps Commander. However, the PM Office did not acknowledge the new postings. It later emerged, through media reports, that the prime minister was not on board with the decision to transfer Lt Gen Faiz Hameed.
Later, some anchors quotes their sources as saying that the PM would be sent a summary with three names for the ISI chief and he will pick one. No official announcement was made in this regard. Federal ministers have however been denying reports of differences between military and the government.
