While speaking during Asad Ali Toor's podcast, Ayub said Faiz has made it clear that he has no affiliation, whatsoever, with the PTI.
According to him, the ex-ISI chief's move comes amid a possible action against him for his links with the former ruling party.
Faiz Hameed was widely suspected of orchestrating a network of well-placed officials in the intelligence, military, bureaucratic, and even judicial apparatus to become the next COAS.
According to reports that have been made public, this network was operating even when Hameed himself was not heading Pakistan’s premier intelligence agency.
The network allegedly drummed up his candidature as the potential army chief when he was a corps commander in Bahawalpur, and is alleged to have been functional even after his retirement.
Once presumed to be the favoured choice of former prime minister and PTI chairman Imran Khan for the post of Pakistan’s army chief, Lt Gen Faiz sought early retirement from the army last year – his application was swiftly approved.
He has since been accused of amassing wealth beyond his known sources of income. PML-N chief organiser Maryam Nawaz has called for Faiz Hameed to be tried and court martialed under army regulations.
There have also been reports that that there are several inquiries ongoing against the former general.
Lt Gen (retd) Faiz and former COAS Qamar Javed Bajwa are seen as being behind the manipulation of 2018 elections to bring Imran to power.
Ever since the PTI chief's ouster from power, he has been running a voracious campaign against the ruling party, saying that they have failed to put the economy on the right track or overcome the security threats facing the country.
