‘Prime minister’s healthy diet won’t last’
According to Jang (July 11, 2016) famous chefs who have cooked for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said during a private gathering that it is unlikely he will continue with his healthy diet (consisting of vegetables, salads and other food without oil) for more than six months, and will go back to his old eating habits.
Tahirul Qadri’s guards fight with police outside Lal Haveli
Nawa-e-Waqt reports (July 11, 2016) a fight broke out between the policemen on duty outside Sheikh Rasheed’s Lal Haveli and the guards accompanying Tahirul Qadri. The cops had declined to let them take Qadri’s bag inside. The Lal Haveli administration intervened to settle the matter.
Bugs in PIA’s new healthy food
Reported in Express (July 12, 2016) passengers on a PIA flight from Kuala Lumpur to Lahore found insects in the food served to them. The PIA administration had begun serving a fresh and healthy new menu on July 1.
Powerless local councilor threatens suicide
An elderly local councilor in Gujranwala climbed a pole and threatened to kill himself because he had not been given any authority as a public representative, Dunya reports (July 13, 2016). He said nobody listened to him in government offices, and his voters made fun of him because of that. The people of the neighborhood gathered to calm him down, and his nephew also climbed the pole to persuade him to come down. It took them six hours to convince him.
Imran told me about third marriage: Shoaib Akhtar
Quoted in Nawa-e-Waqt (July 13, 2016) retired fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar said Imran Khan had told him about a third marriage two months ago. They were at a restaurant when the former cricket captain told him he would marry for a third time and make sure it is successful. He said Imran Khan has strong determination (pukhta azam) and always does what he says.
Traffic wardens beat up elderly citizen
According to Express (July 14, 2016) a number of traffic wardens beat up an elderly citizen in Lahore, slapping and punching him (mukkon aur thaprron ki barish) after an argument about his registration documents. Passersby were not allowed to intervene. The man was saved by Dolphin Force policemen who were on patrol in the area.
Police tortures Edhi’s grandson for bribe
According to Jang (July 15, 2016) policemen in Karachi stopped and frisked Abdus Sattar Edhi’s grandson, and then asked him for money. When he declined to pay up, he was taken to the local police station where drunken officers tortured him. The stationhouse officer let him go when he found out who he was, and pressed him not to tell anyone.
Ex-wife beats man looking to marry for the fourth time
Reported in Dunya (July 15, 2016) a man was beaten up by his ex-wife and several other women when he arrived at a court in Faisalabad for an alimony hearing. He had divorced his third wife to marry for a fourth time. They slapped and punched him and beat him up with their shoes, asking him how many times he wanted to marry.
Pickpocket targets Manzoor Wattoo in mosque
Veteran politician Manzoor Wattoo lost several thousand rupees in cash and important documents when someone picked his pocket, Nawa-e-Waqt reports (July 16, 2016). The incident took place when he arrived at a mosque in Okara for Friday prayers.
Robber seeks justice against accomplices
Reported in Dunya (July 17, 2016) a man who took part in an armed robbery in Faisalabad went to the police to “seek justice” after he was not given his due share in the proceeds of the crime (a motorcycle, a mobile phone, and ten thousand rupees). He told the police that his accomplices fired at him when he asked for his share. He said he had come to them to “seek justice” and asked to register a case against the men.
