Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shahbaz Gill is to remain at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) till Monday. The court stopped Islamabad Police from securing his custody till his medical had been received and reviewed.

The court order today (Friday) decided that Gill was 'medically un-fit' and needed further medical examinations. The prosecution asked for an eight-day physical remand, at which the judge asked why the police needed an additional eight days to conduct its investigation.

It was also decided that Gill's two-day physical remand would begin from today, as he had been handed over to the police by the hospital authorities.

On Wednesday, the Islamabad Police had obtained permission for a two-day physical remand of the PTI leader, however Gill was shifted to PIMS late on Wednesday amid a squabble between the Punjab and Islamabad police.

Previously on Thursday, the IHC stated in a court order that the place of confinement of Gill should be disclosed to his family and friends, and he should also be made aware of his right to meet with his counsel.

IHC Acting Chief Justice Aamer Farooq also directed the IGP to submit a report on the alleged police torture inflicted on Gill.

Gill was arrested on August 9 for inciting violence against state institutions. Following the arrest, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said that Gill was picked up by unidentified personnel in cars with missing number plates.

PTI chairperson Imran Khan claimed on Tuesday that Gill was tortured in police custody.
