Recent floods in the Vasaib -- areas of south Punjab dominated by the Seraiki have wreaked havoc on the region.

Activist Amjad Mehdi, a political activist, has painted a chilling portrait of what has befallen denizens of the area in a series of tweets. Mehdi, additionally, excoriated the press, State and activists for turning a blind eye towards the plight of those affected.

"You won’t find a single report, an article or a detailed package on this existential threat to the people of Saraiki Vasaib. Saraiki Vasaib is preferably unheard or deliberately silenced. And political leaders of our region are callous and don’t speak up," Mehdi said in a Twitter thread.

Recent monsoon rains caused swollen hill torrents from the Sulaiman Mountain Range to wreak havoc on scores of localities across Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur districts. Those affected have been compelled to flee, according to Amjad. Scores of indigenous embankments -- put together to store water -- have given way. Hundreds of localities in the area consequently stand inundated.

The government has done little more than declaring an emergency in DG Khan and Rajanpur. Relief activities are below par and those affected have evacuated elsewhere without any governmental assistance.
