If the top judges and his fellow judges were serious about defusing the situation, they should've reviewed the questions raised in Justice Athar Minallah's note, according to Imran Waseem.

The reporter told Khabar Say Aagay host Raza Rumi that the Supreme Court dismissed the ECP's plea to set Oct 8 as the date for elections in view of the prevailing political situation, directing that the funds be provided by April 27.

Waseem said that the plea today by an ordinary citizen was taken up quickly, followed by notices to the political parties, which signals a change in the direction of things.

Mubasher Bukhari said that there are reports of a meeting between CJ Bandial and COAS, and that does change things.

He added that the top judge, too is aware about the prospects of May 14 polls; but he wants his verdict implemented so he has asked the parties to bring about a consensus, so the court can show flexibility.

Legal expert Ahmad Pansota criticised the parliamentarians for bringing every matter to the court.

Murtaza Solangi commented that it seems the PTI wants to establish a single-party system in the country.

Earlier today, CJ Bandial said that the court had rendered a decision about the Punjab polls and that it is time to “move on.”

A day earlier, top intelligence personnel briefed the court on the security situation. The director general of military operations briefed the bench at the briefing, according to CJP Bandial, who also mentioned the presence of the director general of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the defence secretary.

The same bench issued the ruling on April 4, ordering the government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold early elections in Punjab the following month.

The situation is bound to become clearer in the days ahead.
