Former all-rounder and Pakistan national cricket team captain Shoaib Malik has tied the knot with actor Sana Javed.
Malik shared an image of the two from their wedding on his official account on the social media site 'X', formerly known as Twitter.
He shared two images accompanied by the words "Alhamdulillah" and a heart emoji. It is followed by a fragment from the Holy Quran, which carries the meaning: And We created you in pairs.
Sana Javed also shared the picture on her official Instagram account in a joint post with Shoaib Malik. She also changed her name on Instagram from Sana Javed to Sana Shoaib Malik.
The announcement comes after a year where rumours were rife about a split between Malik and his athlete wife, Indian Sania Mirza.
The two have a five-year-old child, Izhaan.
Initially, the rumours of divorce, which spread in late 2022, appeared to be part of a marketing stunt for Mirza, out to be for the Mirza-Malik Show by Spotify and Urduflix.
The show did not return for a second season.
Malik denied the rumours, but Mirza did not.
However, there have been very few public instances where Mirza was spotted together with Malik over the past year.
In the weeks leading up to Malik's announcement on Saturday, Mirza had posted cryptic messages such as: "When something disturbs the peace of your heart, let it go" and "What you are looking for isn't out there. It's in you!"
Earlier in the week, she posted what appeared to be the strongest indication of the pair going their separate ways.
"Marriage is hard. Divorce is hard. Choose your hard.
Obesity is hard. Being fit is hard. Choose your hard.
Being in debt is hard. Being financially disciplined is hard. Choose your hard.
Communication is hard. Not communicating is hard. Choose your hard.
Life will never be easy. It will always be hard.
But we can choose our hard. Pick wisely."
She has been focussing on her tennis academy in Dubai, where she shifted after her marriage to Malik.
Malik's marriage with Sana Javed is his third marriage. The 41-year-old first married Ayesha Siddique in 2002, after making his debut for the national team in October 1999. The two called off their marriage in 2010.
