The Punjab government has announced additional seven-day vacations for schools due to the extreme hot weather.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar announced the holidays in a post on X, previously known as Twitter. The minister released a statement saying that all public and private schools will be closed from May 25 to May 31.
"Viewing parents' opinions and the intensity of the weather, we have decided to declare holidays from this week," he stated.
The education minister stated that institutions that are conducting exams will be permitted to remain open on a conditional basis since protecting students from the harsh impacts of the weather was his ministry's top concern.
On May 17, the Punjab government announced the annual holidays for public and private schools throughout the province. The announcement said that holidays will be observed from June 1 to August 14.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has cut school hours due to the high temperatures seen in numerous places throughout the entire country.
"The schools will open from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. from Monday until Thursday, while they will open at 7 a.m. to close at 10:30 a.m. on Fridays," the announcement stated.
