Lahore Commissioner Captain (r) Usman on Saturday issued strict orders regarding anti-smog policy as Air Quality Index (AQI) in the city reached 428.
The commissioner has ordered the joint teams of Traffic Police and Municipal Corporation to carry grand operation against encroachment. In the meeting chaired by commissioner Lahore, it was decided that five teams of traffic squad will be formed to crackdown on smoke-emitting vehicles.
On the advice of the commissioner, the inspectors of transport and the municipal corporation will be included in the squad. The commissioner said that for one month only Euro 5 fuel is supplied in the city, while the supply of Euro 2 fuel is suspended.
The commissioner said that by using Euro 5 fuel, there will be a reduction in the emission of Sulphur, which would help decrease the effects of smog. The commissioner formed joint team of Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), West Company and Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to spray water across the city.
He also ordered the deployment of permanent teams to check vehicles in polluted areas of the city. The commissioner ordered the relevant quarters to take strict action over failure to spray water on buildings and sought a report, within a time period of two days.
Meanwhile, smog in Lahore made it difficult for the citizens to breathe as Air Quality Index (AQI) in the city reached 428.
The places around Jail Road Mall Road, Ferozepur Road, Harbanspura, Wagah, Township, Defence, Raiwind remained the most vulnerable to smog. In the evening hours, the AQI reached 500.
