Nazim Jokhio’s brother, Afzal Jokhio, recorded a statement in which he said that MNA Jam Abdul Karim was not involved in the torture and murder of his brother. The statement was recorded before a local court under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC).

The suspects face charges of torturing and later murdering Nazim Jokhio for recording PPP MPA Jam Awais’s guests while they hunted the endangered Houbara bustard.

Afzal Jokhio, in his statement, said that MNA Jam Abdul Karim has sworn to him that he was not involved in the murder of his brother and hence he was requesting the name of the latter be removed from the list of suspects. However, he said that PPP MPA Jam Awais and other suspects were indeed involved in the murder of his brother.

Contradicting what Afzal had said in court, the mother and wife of Nazim Jokhio said, in a video uploaded on social media, that Afzal had given the statement under duress. They said that Afzal had felt threatened that he would be killed if did not withdraw the name of Karim from the list of suspects.

Nazim Jokhio was tortured to death in a farmhouse in Malir. At the time Nazim’s family claimed that he was murdered at the behest of an MNA and an MPA of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
