Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Supremo Nawaz Sharif allegedly rejected a proposal sent by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan for the two to team up against the establishment, revealed journalist Saleem Safi.

Appearing on a talk show on Geo News on Wednesday, Safi said that Imran Khan had sent a messenger to Nawaz Sharif with an offer for the two of them as well as Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chair Asif Zardari to join forces against the establishment, but Sharif rejected the idea.

When asked by the show host why Sharif, who had until recently been anti-establishment himself, had rejected the proposal, Safi said that the three time former prime minister had not wanted to engage in conversation with Imran Khan, claiming that he could not trust him.

During the show, Safi also claimed that since Imran Khan's ouster from government in April, 'not a day has gone by' where the PTI hasn't 'pleaded' with the establishment to get back in favor. He said that he reported how Imran Khan had met army chief Gen Bajwa at the President's House in Islamabad, however the PTI had not denied even a single line from that report even now.

Safi also said that the purpose of intimidation and the real target of all the threats of the long march is actually the establishment. "They know that neither Shehbaz Sharif, nor Zardari can get them the elections they want, and that it is only the establishment," he said.
