The high-level huddle in Dubai has yielded some direction as to what the shape of the upcoming caretaker government could look like.
Columnist and television anchor Javed Choudhry has claimed in his vlog that a massive confab is currently underway in the United Arab Emirates where Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz supremo Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari along with several high ranking party members from both sides are engrossed in talks on the evolving political scenario in the country. Aun Chaudhry, he claimed, is also in Dubai with a message allegedly from Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) chief Jahangir Tareen.
Chaudhry said that the PML-N has put forward the name of the former Pakistan Cricket Board chairman and recently served as the head of the board's interim management, Najam Sethi. Previously, the PML-N had suggested Sethi's name for the caretaker Punjab chief minister post ahead of the 2013 elections.
From the PPP, the name of Gohar Ijaz has been put forward. Chaudhry said that Ijaz had suggested to Zardari that if some concessions are provided to the textile industry, especially on energy, he can increase Pakistan's foreign exchange reserves by $15 billion.
From the establishment, the name of Mohsin Baig has been proposed, and Chaudry says the PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) are in his favour.
Nawaz's return?
Chaudhry said that it appears as if Nawaz Sharif will be returning to Pakistan in July to first deal with his cases and then oversee his party's electoral campaign.
He said that countries friendly towards Pakistan in the region are all keen to see Nawaz return to the country, especially if Shehbaz Sharif manages to convince the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to resume the loan program.
A Charter of Economy is also on the cards after elections, which are likely to be held in November.
Seat adjustments
Chaudhry said that another major element of the Dubai huddle is the adjustment of seats.
He claimed that the PPP has asked the PML-N not to contest five seats. These seats belong to former prime ministers Yousuf Raza Gilani and Raja Pervez Ashraf. Others include Qamar Zaman Kaira in Lala Musa, Nadeem Afzal Chan and Makhdoom Ahmed Khan in Rahim Yar Khan.
There are other settlements in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Aun Chaudhry from IPP is also seeking seat adjustment in South Punjab.
