Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) leader Ali Wazir and human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari were given into police custody on Monday by Judge Abual Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain of an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad for a three-day physical remand.
In a case involving sedition, intimidation, and inciting others, the prosecution asked for a 10-day physical detention of the accused.
The cases were filed against them after they made a contentious statement at a recent PTM demonstration in the federal capital.
Imaan and Wazir were subsequently detained by the Islamabad police in the early hours of Sunday, and the same day, a local court in Islamabad granted them remand.
They were presented earlier today at the federal capital's anti-terrorism court, presided over by Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain.
Imaan embraced Shireen Mazari when they arrived at the Islamabad Judicial Complex, but Wazir was led to court with his face covered.
Imaan informed her mother, "I have gone on a hunger strike," and she added that no one had questioned her throughout the inquiry.
Imaan's lawyer informed the court during the hearing that she had been remanded into police custody for a day.
The lawyer stated, "Police have not yet found anything. He argued that there was no escape from danger from the human rights lawyer.
"She is here," the lawyer asserted. He continued by saying that the cops had Imaan's laptop and mobile in their custody.
"Why haven't any charges been filed against Imaan Mazari yet? is the question. Why hasn't a voice matching test or photogrammetric test been performed yet?"
"What will be gained by keeping Imaan Mazari in custody? It is not necessary for Imaan Mazari to remain in police custody. There are more than 900 named accused with Imaan."
He remarked, "They want to declare Imaan Mazari a terrorist, but the police are forgetting that they also have mothers and sisters at home."
Moreover, Imaan's legal team sought permission from the ATC to meet its client, saying that she had fainted yesterday and they could not meet her at the police station.
We want to communicate with Islamabad, Wazir stated as he ascended the podium. There was nothing improper uttered at the rally, he added.
Wazir, a former National Assembly member, addressed the court as "Mr. Speaker" at one point.
He held off on making a decision about the prosecution's request for a 10-day remand after the hearing but eventually declared that Wazir and Imaan would be held in police custody for three days.
