India: Rajasthan's Border Security Force (BSF) has arrested a 24-year-old Pakistani man Rizwan Ashraf Rizvi who is allegedly a member of the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), for hatching a plot to kill Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) spokesperson Nupur Sharma for her blasphemous statements.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, the man was arrested on the night between July 16-17, and two knives, religious books, food and clothes were recovered from a bag in his possession.

Superintendent of police (SP), Anand Sharma said Rizvi was transferred to the Hindumalkot police station, where a first information report (FIR) was lodged and an investigation was started.

According to the SP, Rizvi was a resident of Mandi Bahauddin district of Pakistan, and had sneaked into India from the Hindumalkot international border. He had been arrested last year in Lahore for vandalising the statue of Ranjit Singh, but was later granted bail.

“In the preliminary interrogation, he revealed his plan to kill BJP leader Nupur Sharma. He seems to be religiously motivated. He was produced before a court from where he was sent into police custody for five days,” said Sharma. He added that the accused did not know where Nupur Sharma lived, or how he would reach her.
