Ahmad said Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari had also stressed the importance of finding common ground between 'Rawalpindi' and 'Islamabad". Sharif, he said, should exhibit some flexibility on the matter. He said a consensus on the top military appointment was yet to be achieved.
Analyst Salman Abid said reports of differences on the appointment definitely had merit since a unanimous name would not be presented by those consulted on the matter. This, he said, was not necessarily unwelcome.
He said Finance Minister Ishaq Dar having taken what had been termed serious notice of incumbent COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa's assets leak was representative of how well-enshrined democracy was in the country.
