The Election Commission of Pakistan on Thursday confirmed a tentative timeline for elections, stating that polls have been set for the last week of January 2024.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the apex poll body said that a meeting was held at the commission, which reviewed the progress made on the delimitation of constituencies.

In this regard, the commission decided and stressed that preliminary delimitations will be completed later this month, and a provisional list will be published by September 27, 2023.

Thereafter, the process of filing of, reviewing and disposing of objections and suggestions by stakeholders and political parties will commence, which will be completed with the publication of final delimitations by November 30, 2023.

From then on, elections will be held after 54 days in the last week of January (54 days puts the date of elections at around January 23).

The statement was issued in the wake of demands presented by political parties urging the election commission to announce the schedule for general elections and end the uncertainty surrounding the polls.

On Wednesday, the ECP dispatched a draft 88-point code of conduct for elections to all major parties for their consideration and feedback.
