To ensure the success of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) ‘Jail Bharo Tehreek’, the party’s senior leaders, Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Asad Umar, have voluntarily decided to surrender themselves to the police.

While addressing a press conference in Lahore, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry announced that Qureshi and Umar have decided to voluntarily surrender before the law enforcers.

It is pertinent to mention here that, on February 4, PTI Chairman Imran Khan announced ‘Jail Bharo Tehreek’ after sedition cases were lodged against his party leaders, including Fawad Chaudhry, Azam Swati, and Shahbaz Gill.

Fawad said that commencing ‘Jail Bharo Tehreek’ is the right step in the right direction. He further said that President Arif Alvi declared April 9 as the date for the general election in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa —a move rejected by the ruling alliance — insisting that the election date could not be altered according to the Election Act and the Constitution.

President Alvi had announced April 9 as the date for polls in Punjab and KP after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) refused to hold a consultation with the president regarding the election schedule.

While talking about PTI’s participation in the upcoming polls, Fawad said that the party would begin allocating tickets to the candidates next week. He also disclosed that the party’s election campaign will gain momentum when Imran Khan joins it within one-and-a-half weeks.

He said that the PTI has started preparing for the upcoming elections while following Khan's directives. He also urged the party’s candidates to initiate election campaigns in their constituencies. A nationwide public awareness campaign would be held before elections, he added.

While talking about the National Accountability Court's (NAB) summons notices to Khan in the Toshakhana case, he said that the NAB chairman has revealed the government’s intention by stepping down from his post.

Meanwhile, Shah Mehmood Qureshi told journalists that four other party leaders would also surrender themselves.
