Due to insufficient capacity, prisoners are kept in inhuman conditions at Adiala Jail. This has resulted in parliamentarians in the Upper House to ask that there be a functional jail in Islamabad.
"The matter will be raised in the parliament, as over 4000 prisoners beyond capacity are kept in Adiala Jail," said Chairman Senate Standing on Human Rights Senator Waleed Iqbal, during a visit to Adiala Jail. He further said that prisoners from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are also languishing in Adiala Jail.
The Islamabad Jail is located in H-16, but it is not functional and it still undecided whether political prisoners are to be kept there if at all.
