The CEO of British assets recovery firm Broadsheet, Kaveh Moussavi, has issued an apology to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif for being part of a 'witch hunt' against him, which he said resulted in not a 'scintilla of evidence' of corruption.

In an interview with Geo News, Moussavi aimed to set the record straight, unequivocally stating that his firm had found 'not one rupee' which suggested the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) supremo was involved in corruption, stolen, hidden or unexplained wealthy anywhere in the world.

“Not one rupee. We found a lot of plundered wealth but not one rupee relating to Mr Nawaz Sharif, the former prime minister, or any member of his family. Not one rupee, I can categorically say that after virtually 21 years of investigations. If anybody tells you otherwise, they are lying to you," the CEO said.

Kaveh Moussavi said he was convinced that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had levied cases against Nawaz Sharif on political grounds, after working with NAB for over two decades. He further claimed that the Prime Minister Imran Khan government was more interested in finding 'political capital against their enemies' than stolen national wealth.

"I have no hesitation in issuing an apology to the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif for having been a part to the sham, the scandalous non-sense masquerading as NAB. It’s a fraud through and through," he said.

Broadsheet was contracted by the General Pervez Musharraf government in 1999 to unearth wealth allegedly stolen by Nawaz Sharif, Benazir Bhutto and hundreds of Pakistanis civilian, political, business and military individuals.

Since he was elected in 2018, PM Imran has vowed to rid Pakistan of corruption, often pointing to rampant corruption and stolen wealth in the previous governments.
