Journalists and members of the Gwadar Press Club on Tuesday organised a protest against the locking of the Quetta Press Club by police on Sunday. The protest was staged to express solidarity with the Balochistan Union of Journalists, who condemned the incident and called for a country-wide protest.
On Sunday, the Baloch Yakjehti Committee was conducting a seminar at the Quetta Press Club on fencing in Gwadar when police locked the press club in an attempt to disrupt the event. However, after protests from members of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee, the press club was eventually unlocked.
Journalists, representatives of political parties, the District Bar Association of Gwadar, and members of the Gwadar civil society joined the protest, raising slogans against the suppression of press freedom and condemning the actions of the Balochistan government.
During the protest at the Gwadar Press Club, participants wore black armbands and raised a black flag to express their solidarity with the cause.
The protesters demanded action against those responsible for the incident and called for an end to attempts to muzzle the press.
