Top General Upendra Dwivedi, who is the Indian Army Northern Command General Officer-Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), said the force was ready to execute orders including annexing Azad Jammu and Kashmir, according to ANI.
He made the comments in response to being asked to comment on Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's recent comments on annexing Gilgit-Baltistan soon. "A parliamentary resolution already exists on the subject. It is nothing new." The top general said the force will execute any order from the government of India. "Whenever such orders are given, we will always be ready for it."
Minister Singh had pledged to annex the Pakistani territory of Gilgit-Baltistan soon earlier in October. Singh made the comments at a Srinagar event marked to commemorate the 1947 arrival of Indian troops in what was then the erstwhile princely state of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). He said the day was not far when the Pakistani region of Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) will become part of the Indian Union.
