In a video uploaded on YouTube, the journalist claimed that the coalition government will instruct Punjab Governor Muhammad Baligur Rehman to ask Elahi to seek a vote of confidence from Punjab Assembly.
He said that 21 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPAs were absent in a recent parliamentary party meeting in Lahore, adding that these lawmakers would abstain from casting their votes during the vote of confidence to keep Elahi short of the required (186) votes.
He further said that the defection clause would not apply on these MPAs for going against the party lines if the voting is held on the advice of the governor.
It merits mentioning here that the Supreme Court had declared Elahi as the Punjab chief minister on July 26 for securing 186 votes against the 179 of PML-N’s Hamza Shehbaz in the July 22 election for the coveted post. President Dr Arif Alvi had administered the oath to Elahi at Aiwan-i-Sadr in Islamabad on July 27.
