In his renewed effort to apply pressure on the PDM-led coalition government, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has issued a fresh warning of countrywide protest if the Supreme Court's directions to conduct elections in Punjab on May 14 were not executed.

While addressing the party workers at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore, the former premier said that the goal of the fight for "real freedom" was to bring everyone within the reach of the law. Real freedom cannot be attained easily; it necessitates numerous sacrifices, he added.

Imran Khan poked fun at Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif by saying that while traveling abroad, he "always expressed helplessness while pretending not to beg for Pakistan and made it clear that the nation had no future in slavery."

The PTI chief said that the incumbent rulers had ideologically adopted the position of slaves, and the main focus of their struggle was to preserve their illicit money.

Imran Khan attributed this failure to former army chief General (retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa. He said that he was powerless to stop them since General (retired) Bajwa had no problem with corruption.

The PTI chief claimed that "the justice system will have to be amended" in order to help the country out of its predicament. He lamented that the PTI employees had "been picked up by security forces," calling it "the worst example of injustice."

It should be mentioned that the PTI chief had previously met with the regional party presidents for Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Senior leaders like Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, Shibli Faraz, and Dr. Yasmeen Rashid were also present.

According to sources, the discussion reportedly covered the party's strategies for its election campaign in Punjab. Imran Khan instructed his party to get ready for the polls on May 14, as ordered by the apex court.

Imran's comments come as the PML-N tried to make contact with the PTI, its arch-rival, after the Supreme Court granted the country's major political parties a brief reprieve, giving them a week to agree on a date for elections.

The Ministry of Defence had urged the apex court to reconsider its decision on the Punjab elections and requested elections for the provincial assemblies and the National Assembly on the same day in October, the month in which the lower house of parliament will finish its five-year term. The apex court had granted the parties time until after Eid.
