Prime Minister Imran Khan recalled Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed from UAE on Saturday to deal with the security situation in the country.

Islamabad, Lahore and Rawalpindi have been partially shut down as opposition parties and a banned group have been protesting in various parts of the country.

The interior minister was in the UAE to watch the Pakistan-India T20 World Cup match on Sunday.

Talking to reporters earlier, Rasheed had said that the premier had approved his request for a two-day holiday to watch the game live in the UAE.

However, later, the prime minister urged the interior minister to return to the country to manage the rapidly changing law and order situation. Rasheed arrived in Islamabad via the Airblue flight PA-213 from Sharjah on Saturday.

On Friday, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar formed a committee to negotiate with the TLP as they were staging protests to demand the release of their leader Saad Rizvi.

Buzdar made the announcement regarding the government's decision to hold talks with the banned outfit on Twitter.

“We have formed a committee, consisting of senior members of the Punjab Cabinet Raja Basharat and Chaudhry Zaheeruddin to negotiate with the banned organization,” Buzdar wrote.

Meanwhile, opposition parties had also taken to the streets in various cities against the rising inflation in the country.

After the call to protest was given by the opposition, protesters came out in Karachi, Larkana, Lahore, Sukkur, Mardan, Jacobabad, Mohmand, Ziarat, Mingora and other cities of the country.
